Why Hydrosols Are Good For Your Hair

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

In our last article, we were introduced to Hydrosols and why TDM Essential Oils is a huge advocate and supporter of hydrosols. If you recall, hydrosols are a byproduct of the essential oil creation process by way of steam and water, resulting in an all-natural product loaded with therapeutic benefits for our hair, skin, and body! To continue our journey to unveil the many unknown benefits of hydrosols, we will focus our attention on how hair reacts when it is cared for with hydrosols. We will also discuss which hair types should use hydrosols and the benefits of each hydrosol spray.

Hair & Scalp Reactions When Using Hydrosols

Hydrosols carry a lot of the same effective benefits as essential oils, but in a much milder manner. Hydrosols are chemical free, colorless, and do not contain synthetic fragrances. When sprayed onto the hair, the organic molecular plant nutrients of each spray can revive life back onto the surface of the hair shaft, promote healthier hair cuticles, and balance the pH of your sweat glands.

Hydrosols can be sprayed onto the hair before or after styling. Care should be taken to not apply hydrosols before using intense hair tools such as a flat iron. Each spray also pairs beautifully with other hair products such as shampoos, conditioners, or even hair serums. Due to their organic nature, each spray can be used on various hair types such as:

· Thin or Thick Hair

· Textured and Curly Hair

· Braids, Dreads, or Twists

· Facial Hair

· All Hair Colors

· Even pet hair! (Coming soon in a future article!)

Hydrosols are so lightweight, they can be used multiple times a day if needed without weighing the hair down, since the main ingredient is water. Each lightweight spray formula naturally protects against external factors such as intense sun exposure, sweat, varying weather elements, or after shave care. If you enjoy adding oil or moisturizer to your hair when it is wet, moisture is intensified when the hair is spritzed with a hydrosol instead of just plain water.

Which Hydrosol Should You Choose?

Each of TDM's Hydrosols contain different properties with beautiful natural scents. TDM's hydrosols are all organic, curated directly from plants. Each product is carefully crafted to maintain its original benefits. TDM's premier Hydrosol Collection includes the following 4 hydrosols with more to be added as various herbs come into season:

  • Rosem Hydrosol Hair Mist

  • Peppermint Hydrosol Hair Mist

  • Lavender Hydrosol Hair Mist

  • Frankincense Hydrosol Hair Mist

Frankincense Hydrosol for Hair:

Many are familiar with the benefits of frankincense essential oils such as bringing balance, grounding, and calmness. However, many overlook the benefits frankincense can bring to the hair and scalp. Frankincense hydrosol sprays are antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, which is especially useful to maintain proper moisture and pH. If you need to improve dry and damaged hair, frankincense is a good spray to add to your personal collection.

Lavender Hydrosol for Hair:

Lavender Hydrosols work great for scalps that are itchy and irritated. This spray can calm the scalp when massaged in, soothe sunburns, and repair the hair epidermis. If you suffer from dandruff or a flaky scalp, applying a lavender hydrosol will alleviate this issue, leaving the hair feeling soft and voluminous.

Peppermint Hydrosol for Hair:

Peppermint Hydrosols have an amazing cooling effect on the scalp or after shaving, especially when kept refrigerated. This uplifting botanical water stimulates the scalp and helps relieve an itchy scalp. Peppermint hydrosols also contain anti-inflammatory properties, which can assist with certain skin conditions such as eczema. Peppermint is also known for its stimulation properties, which boosts hair growth.

Rosem Hydrosol for Hair:

Rosemary is the new hair growth craze on social media and many beauty publications. Rosem stands out as one of the most popular hydrosol sprays since it is known to also strengthen the hair. Many enjoy adding rosemary to their hair just after shampooing to allow for faster penetration into hair follicles and to keep hair color vibrant.

TDM Hydrosols are free of any non-organic materials and preservatives. Each bottle is sold in glass bottles and should be kept in glass bottles to maintain the product's integrity. Each collection is derived from fresh, organic plant matter in a copper still, under constant supervision. Since our collection is pure and from a trusted distiller, we recommend refrigerating your hydrosols upon receipt to extend the shelf life of your product.
